Good News!

This past week has been nothing but a roller coaster of ups and downs, but the past day or two we’ve had some really good, and some really exciting, news. First and foremost, I have to show off the Pullover Caftan. I’m both happy and disappointed though. First, I subbed the yarn to Debbie Bliss Cathay. The color is beautiful, the stitches are nice and smooth. Yet the fabric seems to droop a bit. Unfortunately the disappointment lies in the fact that the sweater is too big. I tried it on, without a neckline, and it was drooping off my shoulders too much. With the front opened it doesn’t mold itself against the body.
Here’s a more detailed photo. Don’t let the lighting fool you, the color seems to be a bit faded here. There is still no neckline since I haven’t decided on what I’m going to do as far as rows and decreasing. I figure I will need at least 10-15 rows to keep the sweater on my shoulders. I was alos thinking I might sew the bottom inserts an inch or two up to help keep the sweater a bit more closes off and fitted. I’m hoping that will solve the problem. (BTW, it was “technically” my fault that the sweater came out so large. I had figured I’d grow a bit during the pregnancy in the chest area…which I did…but I made the XL instead of L, which would have probably fit wonderfully given their actual sizes.) Que sera, sera! Whatever will be, will be.

I got this wonderful book from the library the other day.

It’s called, And So To Bed by Lucinda Guy. She also wrote, “Handknits for Kids”. (I have that too.) Anyway, the book is just precious. I wish she did more knits for babies though. I don’t want to wait til the baby is 2 or 3. I did see one cute stuffed animal project that I’d like to knit for the baby though. She’s a cute little Ballerina, isn’t she?

So can you guess if the baby would be a boy or girl from this project choice? 🙂 We had our ultrasound yesterday morning. I wanted to announce it right away, but I had no pictures. (And you know me, I don’t like photoless blog posts…they aren’t as interesting I guess.) It’s a girl!!! We’ve already gone out and bought clothes. I’m so excited. So is Shawn. She’s already got him wrapped around her little finger! (Though he won’t admit it.)

In other news, I’m awaiting my Ebay buy. I’ve decided to do the Cabled Sweater from Vogue’s Fall Issue. I ordered 16 skeins of Zara Merino Wool in a nice light blue. Can’t wait to cast on! Speaking of casting on. I had to buy some pink yarn for a baby blanket. So I picked up a couple of skeins of Bernat Cotton Tots and started the first 15 rows of a baby blanket. I’ll have pictures of that this weekend since the pattern isn’t distinguishable quite yet.

We are also moving in about a week and a half! Moving! I’m both sad and happy. I like where I am since I know where everything is. But I want a new home with my boyfriend and kids. We got the two and two in Canyon Country. Our “official” move out date is October 3. Can’t wait to do some shopping and decorating. (There’s that nesting going on again!)

Dalton, however, will not be happy. This building doesn’t allow animals, yet. My friend is manager and said as long as he stays inside it will be ok. But Dalton has never been an indoor only cat. I don’t know what will happen. Looks like I’ll have to update pictures of him in his new spots. There’s enough of them in this apartment!

  1. Oooh – your caftan is looking lovely. I sure hope it works out in the sizing. I’m glad you have some options.

Congrats on having a girl! Sounds like that’s what you both wanted. And so fun to knit for, of course 🙂

  2. My daughter had her eye on that Caftan! I am so sorry it is too big but, with that little girl in your tummy, you just might be filling it out soon..LOL

  3. Caftan is beautiful! And congrats on the baby girl!

I knit a few hats and booties for my little one and didn’t think she would wear them for a while. Imagine my surprise when she tried them on just the other day…

I knit the Baby Bolero from One Skein, it’s fast and very cute. Would look great in the Bernat.
